In the beginning

It was over nine months ago that planning began for a group from St. Thomas Aquinas to embark on a pilgrimage to Sydney, Australia for World Youth Day 2008. With enormous support from friends, family, and our parish, fourteen teens will be able to travel across the world for an amazing spiritual journey.

As we begin this blog today, we find ourselves overflowing with excitement that our trip begins in just over five days. Many cars were washed, many paper kangaroos were filled with donations, many cookies were sold, and many breakfast tacos were sold. However, in addition to the fundraising, a great deal of spiritual preparation has taken place in order to prepare ourselves to fully encounter the Holy Spirit.

We started this blog in order to allow everyone who made this trip possible to walk with us on our journey. I ask that you keep our entire group in your prayers as we unite with pilgrims from around the world to celebrate our faith. We will post to this blog as often as possible to keep you updated. We will also post in the days leading up to the trip to share our experience with you. Each of the teens will be asked to post to the blog at some point along with Fr. Michael and the adult leaders. In the meantime, I encourage you to check out the links to the right to find out more information about World Youth Day 08.

In Christ,
Tom Reitmeyer
